SOCIAL MEDIA

QUICK TIPS:

GREAT WAYS TO PROMOTE YOURSELF AND PARENTS PALOOZA ON SOCIAL MEDIA:

Facebook:
Search for area family-friendly businesses, parenting sites, friends, anyone with kids, etc.  Post a message on their wall announcing that you will be at Parents Palooza, Let them know what you will be doing, or Inviting them to come see you at the event.  Not only do they see it, but anyone else visiting their page can see it as well.  You could post something like: Come see @YOURFACEBOOKNAME at @ParentsPalooza Nov 10 & 11 at Cobb Galleria Centre http://www.parentspalooza.com
(you can also include your website if you like).

Make sure to type your name & PARENTS PALOOZA with the @ symbol in front, it should find it and come up highlighted.  That way anyone who reads it can click directly on either of our names and be led to our Facebook page.

Include pictures if it makes sense - "Meet the team from @YOURFACEBOOKNAME at @ParentsPalooza -the Parenting Conference & Expo Nov 10&11 at Cobb Galleria Centre http://www.parentspalooza.com"

Here's fun one if you want to get interactive: "Come out and Play- @ParentsPalooza Game of LIFE-have fun, win real Prizes!  Like @YOURFACEBOOKNAME on FB and stop by our booth (715) for extra tickets!  More tickets=more chances to win!  Http://www.parentspalooza.com"

Then if anyone approaches you at the Expo and mentions Facebook you can give them extra tickets.  Better yet take a picture with them on your or their camera and post it to FB from the event--you can tag each other in the photo.  That's relationship building on Facebook, now all their friends see you too!

Twitter:

You can do most of the same things with Twitter, just keep it under 140 characters.  Pictures go over great on Twitter. Be sure to use the @ before names and # before a topic--if you use #parentspalooza anyone that searches twitter about the event can see your tweet.  So try to use #parentspalooza when possible, then we can see them all and retweet them as well.

EXHIBITING TIPS:

HOW MANY FLYERS SHOULD I ORDER?

That is always a guessing game.  Don't go overboard trying to order brochures and flyers for every attendee.  Remember, they will usually take one per family, not per person.  A more economical option is to order a smaller amount of flyers, brochures, etc and a larger amount of Business Cards with the information you want them to have.  That way if you run out of flyers and brochures you still have the cards to give out--Keep a few flyers and brochures on display and offer them cards.  Printing can be a huge cost, so don't over order.  If someone is truly interested it is your conversation that sells them, not your flyer or brochure, and the information you can fit into the card is enough if they are interested.

FOCUS ON YOUR PRESENTATION:  What will attendees see when they are approaching your booth?  Catch their eyes and you can start the conversations that will lead to a successful event.  Not all attendees will approach a booth they know nothing about just to grab a flyer or brochure.  Try to make your space, visually, convey what you do, who you are, what you have to offer their family.  Have a conversation starter, something they see that makes them approach you even if they have no idea what your organization does.  Some examples would be:  something they want to take their picture with, a giveaway that relates to you, something that makes them curious.  It can be as simple as a question printed out & framed on your table.  That way, they approach you with an idea of what you do and you've already sparked an interest.

Anything interactive is always a plus as well.  Let them participate in something in some way.  Demonstrations are also great, especially if you ask attendees to participate.

Also be mindful that our attendees are Parents, they will have children with them.  If you have something for the kids or for the kids to do while you speak with their parents, you will avoid a big obstacle-something as easy as a chalk board to draw on or a contest they can participate in works well.

ENCOURAGE ATTENDEES TO TAKE PICTURES

Almost everyone has a camera phone, make that work to your advantage.  That photo will be in their phone for a while.  Take it a step further and get them to post the picture on Facebook, or tweet it, etc.  (Maybe offer them extra Game of Life Tickets, that they can use to win prizes, if they post your picture and tag you on Facebook).  To all of their Friends or Followers it looks like a personal endorsement.  Another good tip is to make sure that your website is prominently displayed in the area where you have them take photos and a good view of your display or space as well--another reason to make your space convey what you do.
